How Does FluSTAR Work?

FluSTAR data are compiled and analyzed twice each week during the flu season.

Local flu and flu-like illness activity levels are reported for the current period as a percentage of maximum expected seasonal activity (percentage of positive influenza rapid and lab tests and percentage of patients diagnosed with influenza or influenza-like illness).

In addition, the data for each area is reported on a scale that indicates whether this current flu and flu-like illness is low, moderate, or high.

FluSTAR reports on influenza data from the nearest market for which information is collected.
